The smell. What is it?

Smell is the specific sensation of the volatile matter's presence in the air that is discovered by the chemical receptors of olfaction that are situated in the nose of the person and animals. And the way we distinguish smells and feel them is called chemoreception.

Insects also feel the smell but the mechanisms of chemoreception are different. For the majority of people, the smell is relatively weak differential and integral sensation as it is the result of the general effect of the irritation of receptors. Besides, it is possible that aerosol components of the atmosphere also participate in forming the effect of the smell. It is possible to mark out several factors and levels that influence the formation of the effect of the smell:

- the receptor level.

- The quality of the nose breathing

- The hormonal background.

- The age specialities.

- The level of irritation of the nervous system.

- The individual experience.
